On Saturday, June 8, over 1,600 community members came together at the Toronto SHOPPERS LOVE. YOU. Run for Women, raising a record-breaking $230,000 in support of Women’s College Hospital’s world-leading Women’s Mental Health Program. Supporting Women’s College Hospital for the past seven years, the Run for Women has raised a total of $830,000 toward the Women’s Mental Health Program – the largest research and clinical program of its kind in Canada.

In addition to Shoppers Drug Mart’s generous support of WCH through the Run for Women, the company has contributed nearly $3 million to the hospital through a range of corporate sponsorships, philanthropic investments and other fundraising initiatives.

Saturday’s pre-race ceremony was hosted by MC Meredith Shaw of 104.5 CHUbernard-bennett-(2).jpgM FM. We were thrilled to welcome Minister Carolyn Bennett and Running Room president John Stanton to help kick off the run.

Dr. Simone Vigod, chief of Women’s College Hospital’s department of psychiatry, sees the direct impact of this incredible generosity and support in her practice every day. “Funds raised through the Run for Women enable us to develop and launch innovative new programs that are closing gaps in mental healthcare for women and their families,” she says. “This event is also helping to reduce stigma around mental health and brings important awareness to the issues women are facing.”

The Women’s Mental Health Program has approximately 20,000 patient visits each year from women across the GTA and beyond. Thanks to generous support from the community and funds raised at events like the SHOPPERS LOVE. YOU. Run for Women, this number will continue to grow as the program rolls out more virtual initiatives that strive to help women access expert care in their own communities and transform the way women’s mental healthcare is being delivered.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Shoppers Drug Mart for their leadership, the runners and our community for their incredible commitment.”
