#Ilooklikeasurgeon: WCH celebrates female surgeons

What started as a magazine cover — an illustration of an all-female surgical team rendered in beautiful blues — has since turned into a rallying cry for women surgeons around the world, from France to Kenya, Newfoundland to Texas and now Toronto.

Every day since The New Yorker posted the April 3 cover for its Health, Medicine & The Body Issue, female surgeons have gathered in operating rooms to recreate the illustration, snapping photos and posting them online with the hashtag #ILookLikeASurgeon.

Women’s College Hospital is proud to join the movement with its own re-creation. In the photo above are WCH’s Dr. Tulin Cil, surgical oncologist, and Dr. Karen Devon, endocrine and thyroid surgeon.

I feel so thankful to have had Dr Cil as my surgical oncologist. It's traumatic to undergo breast surgery as a young adult, and I appreciated Dr Cil's incredible surgical skills, willingness to share knowledge and thoughtful bedside manner. Despite her full schedule and challenging caseload, I never felt rushed or uninformed in my decision making. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
