Today we celebrate on a global scale the outstanding social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women taking place to create a more gender-balanced world.

The first International Women's Day (IWD) occurred in 1911, supported by over one million people. Today, IWD belongs to all groups collectively everywhere. It is a day to celebrate, and yet a day to remind ourselves that we still have roads to pave.

We all agree that collaborative action and shared responsibility for driving a gender-balanced world is key. For us at Women’s College Hospital, we are incredibly proud to be a part of such a strong community of supporters who, just like our founders, are phenomenal catalysts of change.

Our donors, our patients, our leadership, our physicians and teams are continuing the legacy of a fierce, determined, and impassioned leader, Dr. Emily Stowe, who established a hospital when no other hospital in Canada would let women train or practice. Today, we continue Dr. Stowe’s fight accelerating society to a more equitable, and healthier, world. The vision and spirit of Dr. Stowe lives at Women’s College Hospital, and in our hearts. Thank you for helping us continue our mission.

In celebration of International Women’s Day, members of our community lent their voices and represented the voices of others by speaking on video of what a gender-balanced world means to them and why closing gaps in women’s health matters. We are proud to share that video with you below:

Happy International Women’s Day!
