Tour de Bleu raises $3.25 million to stop cancer before it can begin!

On Sunday, August 7, a group of 55 cyclists participating in Tour de Bleu — a private fundraiser hosted by the Peter Gilgan Foundation and Mattamy Homes — took to the streets in support of hereditary breast and ovarian cancer research at Women’s College Hospital. By the end of their 160-kilometre journey, they had raised over $3.25 million to help save generations of lives.

Calling all car lovers! On Sunday, August 21, gather your friends and family and come on out for Supercar Sunday, a fantastic event hosted by BMW Toronto and Saturns Drives in support of WCH’s orthopedic surgery program. Enjoy a day filled with food, fun and refreshments while checking out over 100 stunning luxury vehicles. Tickets are $5 each — and kids under two are free!

Ann’s story: Leaving a legacy to make a difference
Ann Delicaet



In the early 1990s, Ann Delicaet received life-saving breast cancer treatment at Women’s College Hospital. Before she passed away in 2014, she decided to arrange gifts in her will to 17 organizations — including WCH — that she knew would carry on her passion for helping others. Her daughter, Mary-Kathleen Young, had the privilege of ensuring Ann’s legacy would continue when she hand-delivered all 17 gifts on her mother’s behalf.

WCH psychiatrist-in-chief’s random act of kindness
Dr. Valerie Taylor





On July 20, Dr. Valerie Taylor — WCH’s psychiatrist-in-chief — was at Union Station when she encountered a recently arrived family of Syrian refugees struggling to figure out how to get from Toronto to London, Ontario. Together with about 50 GO Train passengers and Metrolinx staff, Dr. Taylor helped the family get to their destination. Her account of the experience went viral on Facebook and you can read more about it by clicking through.

When should you get a mole checked out?

Melanoma is the most aggressive form of skin cancer. It often develops as a new lesion but can sometimes develop from a pre-existing mole. To ensure melanoma is caught and treated early, you should regularly examine your skin for any warning signs.
